When you grow indoors, your plants must stay within the Grow Lights' confines. Pay special attention to choosing the proper cucumber and tomato varieties indoors!

The cucumbers, lettuce, radishes, and microdwarf tomatoes were all grown indoors!

Growing tomatoes indoors is fun! Keep them small and manageable. Grow microdwarf types, pretty please! Large tomatoes are not manageable indoors. Microdwarfs are lovely and tasty. Our favorites include Orange Hat & Rosy Finch!

Cucumbers are a very rewarding crop to grow! Home-grown cucumbers have a beautiful flavor and a satisfying crunch that is often missing from expensive store-bought cucumbers.

Growing crispy, crunchy cucumbers indoors is a lot of fun, and I'm betting you'll be obsessed (like I am!) with watching those little babies grow!

Here are some of my best tips for successfully growing these mini cucumbers yourself:

  • Choose parthenocarpic (producing only female flowers and thus does not require pollination) snack-sized "mini" types, such as "Mini Me"

  • Cucumber plants produce a lot of foliage that can block the grow lights, so add in a grow light that you can clip onto the cage. I like to slide the grow lights behind the foliage to add light from behind the plant. More light = more cucumbers!

  • Prune your cucumber plants so that you are managing the size of the plant. This is very important indoors! Here's a helpful article on the how and why to prune cucumbers.

  • Start your seed indoors. This is important so you don't accidentally introduce pests into your system. Here's an article about how to direct seed indoors.

  • Plant ONE seed per cube and grow ONE cucumber per indoor Tower Garden. The vines grow long!

Enjoy growing crispy, crunchy cucumbers indoors!

Quick Start Guide to Planning & Purchase Seeds, Seedlings, & Pest Control

Head over to True Garden and purchase a combination of seeds and seedlings.

Use code trueteam10 to save 10% on your purchase!

Why seedlings? The tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers I recommend for growing indoors are carefully selected for size and self-pollination. These products will grow and produce for months, and purchasing seedlings is cost-effective.

Why seeds? Herbs, lettuces, and greens need to be reseeded every couple of months, and are straightforward to start from seed with the Germinator. It’s more cost-effective to start these plants from seeds. Plus, since greenhouse-grown plants are always at risk of pests, this reduces the risk of introducing pests into your system.

Note: your Tower Garden will come with the following seeds: Bibb lettuce, Gourmet Lettuce, Spicy & Mild Mixes, Arugula, and Basil.

Seedlings from True Garden:

I recommend growing no more than (1) cucumber, (1) eggplant, and (3-5) tomato plants indoors. If you want more tomato varieties, check out my post about the fabulous micro-dwarf tomato seeds available from Victory Seeds!

Seeds from True Garden:

Note on spinach: I have trouble growing spinach indoors in Florida. I think it may be due to our relatively high indoor temperatures. Growers up north grow in their basements, where temps tend to be in the 60s.

I do much better with Tatsoi, which is a nice substitute! I use it the same way I use spinach. The stems are juicier, so it lends itself well to adding to Asian dishes.

Victory Seed Company was kind enough to create a "hydroponic pack" for all of my friends! This selection of seeds will work great indoors. The mini cukes and micro dwarf tomatoes are perfect for growing in the Tower Garden Home! NOTE: I have not personally grown the purple peppers. They look both fun and delicious!
